Richard Pan is a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford.  A doctoral candidate in International Relations, his research interests lie in the development of global governance, with a particular focus on dispute settlement in the WTO.  Prior to completing his M.Phil in International Relations at Oxford, Richard read Economics at the University of Western Ontario as a recipient of the Western’s F.K. Ashbaugh President’s Scholarship and was a Robert T. Jones Scholar to St. Andrews University.   

Immediately before returning to Oxford in 2003, Richard worked in mergers and acquisitions at Goldman Sachs International.  In his two years at Goldman Sachs, Richard worked on a number of significant transactions with an aggregate value of over $3.5 billion.  His experience includes:

  • BG US$1.3bn disposal of interest in the Kashagan oil field (Kazakhstan) (2003)

  • Product focus on sell-side Mergers & Acquisitions

Michele Pan is an associate at National Bank Financial (NBF) in Toronto. As a member of the Hedge Fund Group, Michele analyzes Canadian risk arbitrage situations and develops relative value trading strategies. 

Prior to joining NBF in 2003, Michele worked as a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs International in the Communications, Media and Technology investment banking group. She worked on a number of high profile transactions including Siemens' acquisition of Efficient Networks, Telenor's acquisition of Pannon GSM, and TeleCity Plc's rights issue.

Michele holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Computer Science from the University of Western Ontario and graduated with a UWO Gold Medal in 2000. Michele has also spent a year in Shanghai studying at Jiaotong University.
